SIMMONS MEMORIAL PARK

The Steven & Ruth Simmons Memorial Park, located on Webberville Rd., south of the Webberville Cemetery, is beginning to take shape. The park is owned by Leroy Township and is being developed under the guidance of a park committee that was appointed by Leroy Township.

Tasks that have been completed include: Seeding the 14 acre parcel to grass; installing a gravel driveway and parking lot; installing a chain link fence; installing park signs; building a pavilion, now complete with picnic tables and charcoal grills; installing a portable restroom and a portable dumpster for trash.

There is still much to be done! Future projects include paving the driveway and parking lot; adding a paved walkway from the parking lot to the pavilion; adding paved handicap parking spaces next to the pavilion; adding a paved walking/bicycle path around the park; installing a playground, picnic area, horseshoe pits, softball fields and basketball court; installing a “Contributor Recognition” board; and planting trees throughout the park.

Financial assistance for some of these projects may be available from grants.  We have been approved for an Ingham County Trails and Parks millage grant for 2019.  We have applied for a DNR Recreation Passport grant and are awaiting the approval.  These would provide the walking trail, handicap parking, and playground equipment.  However, grant funds will only go so far!

We need your help to make the Simmons Memorial Park come alive!

We would appreciate any donation of funds or services to assist us in meeting our goals.  Anything you can give will be graciously accepted! Please make your monetary contribution payable to Leroy Township and designate it for the Simmons Memorial Park and send it to the Leroy Township Hall.  Bronze, silver, gold and platinum level contributors will be acknowledged on the “Contributor Recognition” board. Please contact us for details.

Thank you for your participation!
